What Happened is Irrelevant; How You React is What Counts

Reactions are the emblems of our lives. The way we respond or lack thereof can determine the result of so much, that it is always very wise to think before you act. From wars to politics, friendships, relationships, careers, and so much more. Our reactions can make or break not only long built connections but also throw us completely off course and drastically realign our life’s path.

Personally, I have had many disappointments and low points in my life. I have been bullied, I have been hungry, I have lost loved ones, and I have had business failures among many other things. The way I reacted to those low points has determined my fate and my ability to be here writing this article today; as the possibilities of where I could be if I had reacted in another way to all those moments are endless.

Have you really ever taken the time to analyze the situations you have been through in life, and how your reactions created a whole new path for you? What if you had reacted by giving up the first time you failed your driving test; what if you had said no to marrying the love of your life; what if you had decided to call out from the interview that landed your dream job; what if Donald Trump had drop out of the Presidential race after p*ssygate. Life has so many possibilities, and how you respond or react to something not only determines the present, but even more so, the future.

We are human, and many times our emotions will get the better of us. However, learning to think before we react is key to success and everyday living. The reactions we have now can affect not only our futures but also those of our loved ones, friends, and associates. How we react to failure, disappointment, triumph, grief, heartache, hatred, deceit, grudge, hunger, happiness and kindness will decide the true measure of who you are.

Thanks for reading. We should always think before we react indeed, because most of it is not worth our time. One Love.

I think you are absolutely right. Especially nowadays. If someone makes racist remarks or if a tragedy occurs, our reactions can sway the result one way or the complete opposite. We can agree in unison to support the injustice, or protest against is and incite legal action to be taken. Good article!

Thanks for your comment and you are spot on. Our reactions matter even more so when it comes to matters that affect us as a group, because we are not only influencing our behavior but also others.

You are absolutely correct. This is why we need to think through our actions before we do something we might regret when it starts gaining momentum from others. I hope you have a happy New Year!

This is really brilliant. We are the ones to descide how we want to feel in every situation.

Change yourself and change the world. Try to change the world first, and feel horribly frustrated.

Thanks for sharing! I definitely agree. I remember comparing how I reacted and how my brother reacted to my parents divorce. Rather than the divorce itself, I think it’s what I made out of it that had a large impact on my life.
