Tips for Commuting

As a university student, I commute for 2 hours in total each day because I live off-campus. Over the past few months, I have learned a few tips to make it a more pleasant experience for you and your fellow travelers.

1) Make commuting useful

  • If you’re tired, take a nap. It will recharge you. But make sure not to miss your stop.
  • If you like learning new things, listen to a podcast, lean back and relax.
  • If you have to catch up on school/work, read the textbook or review notes.
  • Catch up on what’s going on around the world.

2) Don’t cut in line

It is very unfair to people who may have been waiting for 15 minutes or longer, especially in extremely hot or cold weather conditions. Wait your turn and be respectful, in turn people will respect you.

3) If you can’t find a seat… always go to the back of the bus.

It is easier to access free seats when someone gets up.

4) Have your coins/card ready when waiting for the bus.

Saves time. And time is money.

5) Give up your seat for the elderly, handicapped or pregnant ladies.

6) Plan ahead. If you have to reach a certain place by a certain time, figure out what time you have to leave the house.

7) If you’re headed to a new place, use Google Maps.

This advice has helped me reduce the hassle and inconvenience of commuting, especially if I learn something new.

Enjoy your day!

I really like your tips for making the commute more civil, especially giving up your seat for an elderly or sick person. I just wrote about making commuting better myself! http://wp.me/p8pKbu-Y
