1. “Everything in life is easier when you don’t concern yourself with what everybody else is doing.”

There’s this saying that also says, ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ and I feel like it’s a little bit of an extension of the above quote as well. When we concern ourselves too much on what everyone else is doing and keep on comparing, it makes everything in life harder because we end up putting too much pressure on ourselves. We end up making unreasonable expectations for ourselves that we’ll struggle to achieve and that in turn will just make us miserable and burnt out.

Away from the talks, discussions and pretending that we often use to appear in control, I think it’s okay sometimes to admit that we are not Mr. & Mrs know it all, and that beneath all the tough appearance and the masks we wear, we’re vulnerable and sometimes we have our own doubts and don’t have a clue what the hell  we are doing!  But even during those times of uncertainty, we must never lose faith and hope.

“So much has been said and sung of beautiful young girls, why don’t somebody wake up to the beauty of old women?”-  Harriet Beecher Stowe

An interesting quote that seems to parallel the feelings of women today. Maybe men too!

Harriet Beecher Stowe, an author, and social activist,  also authored Uncle Tom’s Cabin. She was born June 14, 1811, and died on July 1, 1896.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published as a book and quickly became a best seller. Harriet’s portrayal of the impact of slavery on children and families set the stage for emotional unrest. While the book was accepted in the North, it created hostility in the South.

My thoughts on Harriet Beecher Stowe’s quote –

I look in the mirror and what do I see? Young and beautiful, yes that’s me. Lovely words said, beautiful songs sung, about me.

I look in the mirror and what do I see? Old and beautiful, yes that’s me. Lovely words said, beautiful songs sung, about me…

But where are the words? Where are the songs, where can they be? Can’t you see, I am still me?

Wake up you fools, you critical old fools. Look in my mirror and what do you see? Young or old, I’m beautiful you see. Lovely words said, beautiful songs sung, about me. Yes, about me! Yes, that’s me, you’ll see.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, please heed my beckoning call. Old and beautiful, yes that’s me. But, am I still the fairest of them all?

Cheers!
