Staying Focused

Everyone is so busy.We juggle so much in a 24 hour period, it is hard to comprehend how we even get half of it done. Sometimes it’s easy to slip into getting discouraged or feeling a little less than optimistic about your future and what you are working towards. Here are three tips to meditate on. Hopefully they will help you to stay focused and persistent, even when everything else around you seems crazy.

  1. Set a goal – this doesn’t have to be a big, long term goal, in fact, I recommend setting small goals every day that you are more likely to achieve. They could be as simple as working out for 15 minutes, practicing a new skill you are interested in learning, etc.  The feeling of accomplishing something every day becomes addicting, and teaches you discipline that will help you in the long run to achieve bigger goals that span over a longer timeline.
  2. Embrace Optimism – there is no doubt that you will struggle with your daily activities, work load, and things you would like to accomplish both professionally and personally. Some days will feel more productive than others, but embracing an attitude of optimism will help in each and every situation. If you can train your mind to see everything as an opportunity to become something great, you will slowly but surely start to naturally think this way. In a world where everything can change in any moment, having an optimistic spirit will definitely help you stay focused on the good things rather than the bad or disappointing.
  3. Learn to bend – Staying optimistic is only half the battle. Sometimes you will need to change direction in what you originally thought would help you complete your goal or task. When this moment happens, a great skill to have is the ability to be able to switch your focus. Sometimes you have to attack your goal from a different angle or perspective than you originally mapped out. Being able to change directions, and tackle your tasks a different way instead of giving up will really help you to stay persistent in completing and achieving what you initially set out to accomplish.

Hopefully these tips and tricks will help you on your journey to finding balance in life.  Also, don’t forget to take time for yourself daily and meditate on who you are, where you are going, and what you want to accomplish. You can read more about positive thinking and motivation here.

Learning to bend is a real challange. It demands wisdom and flexibility. Once we find the break through the boat, things become easier.

Just thought I’d add to the goal setting, try to set measurable goals… But be careful what you measure. For instance, I’m starting out a blog and have a goal to get 50 followers in then next two months. It’s a vanity metric. It doesn’t tell me if I’m actually doing good in my customers eyes… But it’s a start. Achieve that, and then on to bigger goals.
