Feeling like your going and going but getting nowhere? Are you stuck on an overwhelmingly dull fitness plateau? Between the boring gym sesh and the pilates DVD that has a half inch layer of dust on it I bet you can barely handle life right now, right?

Bet you’d never believe that hundreds of thousands of people are in the same lame boat. But there is a way to change the game forever if you are willing to put some work in and kick some butt.

Circuit Training.

Most people would rather die than do a 30 minute circuit but hear me out. By doing this full body workout you will reap the benefits of muscle building and toning along with intense cardio. The options for circuit training are essentially endless and you can come up with your own for each muscle group or day of the week. This is perfect for shaking off the dust and switching up any boring routine.

Sample Circuit:

Put 20 mins on the clock

Grab a 40 lbs Barbell for Shoulder Press and a 25 lbs Kettle Bell for Swings

Alternate these exercises while doing 30 jumping jacks or a 500 meter run in between.

Continue to alternate exercises with cardio in between each until the 20 mins is up.

…and just like that you’ve burned the calories and exerted yourself just like you would if you were walking on the treadmill for an hour.

Keep in mind you can start out slow and work your way up just like any other type of exercise. This type of training will get your blood flowing, get a good sweat, and have you sore and ready to do more the next day.

So people, do yourself a favor, THROW OUT YOUR TREADMILL and get on the circuit train.

I agree with this, if like ‘The Runnin’ Major’ said, your fitness goal is to lose weight. Cardio is always seen to be the best way to lose weight, whereas it’s much more effective via strength training.

    Great post!

Ditch the treadmill? Depends what your goals are.

If someone’s a dedicated runner who is always training for long-distance races, ditching the treadmill will likely be a non-starter. That’s not to diminish the value of total body fitness – the core strength that can be developed through circuit training is essential for a runner to be successful at any level.

I think people see those who run and they see the body of those runners and assume that is the only way to achieve such a body. You can get such great toned muscles through weights or circuits, like you mentioned.
