“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer

There are 5 types of people in the world:

1. Those who do not know what they want in life, and do nothing about it.

2. Those who know what they want in life, but don’t know what to do to achieve it.

One of the things I see fairly often is people who want to change or accomplish something but won’t because of their own self doubt. Yet, they look at others who they view successful as humans who are made of some supernatural “stuff” when that’s just not the case.

1. Save before you spend

You need to know what money is a fixed outcome each month e.g. rent/bills and what is surplus. The best way to do this is split the different expenditures over two bank accounts and that way you know exactly what you have to spend. It quite easy to open a savings account online and manage this with online banking. Calculate how much your fixed outgoing per month is and move this into another account on payday, what you have left is surplus. Commit to saving a fixed amount each month which will make part of the monthly outgoings moving into another account.

Today I am going to talk about the power of auto-suggestion and the subconscious mind. To be honest, this is something that I recently began to believe in and have quickly come to realize the power of it.

Napoleon Hill defines auto-suggestion as the “agency of communication between the conscious mind and the seat of action for the subconscious mind”. Let’s break this down a little bit. Basically, your subconscious mind is your most powerful and valuable asset. Your subconscious mind drives all your actions and results in life without you even realizing it.

In essence, this law says that 33% of your time should be split up evenly between 3 different groups of people.

1. People Below You

The first 33% is the most simple. This is time spent with people who you would consider below you. For example, maybe you are higher up at your current company and you wish to help an intern learn some new skills. Or perhaps maybe you are an experienced stock trader and wish to help somebody learn the basics who is just starting out. The point is that as you learn and grow it is important to share the knowledge you learn and give advice to others. Helping others is key and will also aid you in your own growth and personal development.

As I was reflecting on the topic of this blog post, I couldn’t help but recall the words of the Wizard of Oz as he addressed the Cowardly Lion: “You, my friend, are a victim of disorganized thinking!” It’s amazing how many insights and nuggets of wisdom, like that, can be mined from this classic and timeless movie.

It’s never easy to make a big change in hopes of becoming a better self (if it was, we’d all be in amazing shape, be CEOs, have perfect health, never feel anxious, and have found a simple solution to every other problem we have, right?)
