Jesus so Scandalous

I don’t know if you ever noticed this while studying but anyway, good thing I’m looking it up today. If you ever noticed it, I’m sure you must have heard that ring in your head like…”what? Has this been here the whole time?”. If you never did, you’re about to…

The second book that explains the phenomenon and story surrounding the birth of Jesus after Luke’s treatise, the book of Matthew. Matthew recorded some few things among which was the statement…

Matthew 1:21

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Let me bring out my point. The very reason for the name JESUS is that salvation is by him. Right? You shall call his name JESUS, ‘for’ he shall save…Another word for ‘for’ in that context is ‘because’. Am I right? Okay, so Jesus basically means the saviour. Anyway, I know probably already knew that. That’s not where I’m headed.

Where I’m headed is…”for he shall save HIS people from their sins”. I mean, the angel did not just call sinners, God’s people? Did he just do that? I mean, did the angel just refer to sinners as God’s people? Oh, you could probably say; well, I think he was referring to the Jews. You know, Israel as God’s people. Oh, then, that would mean that salvation or whatever Jesus did is not accessible by the gentiles. I mean, that’s if we were to go by that understanding. But I understand from scriptures that the ‘Gospel of Christ’ is the ‘power of God’ unto ‘Salvation’ to ‘everyone’ that believeth, to the ‘Jew’ first and also to the ‘Greek’. So, definitely wasn’t just talking about the Jews.

So, did the angel just refer to sinners (and sinners in this context is referring to both Jew and Gentile) as God’s people? I mean, that’s scandalous! That God considers everyone; sinners most especially his people because he has put in place a system and the opportunity for them to become so whenever and anytime they are ready to. That God looks at a man in his sin and unrepentant heart and what he sees first is the potential for the man to become his advocate. Love so scandalous!

Even much more, he already termed them as his people. Therefore, it brings me to an understanding at a level that there’s a group of people that he refers to as his people; both saved and unsaved. Then, there’s the group of people he calls his children; these are the ones who have actually received and believed unto the name of Jesus. Then, there’s the group of people referred to as sons; the ones who have matured in him and are led only by his Spirit.

For God to look down and all he sees is man in his filth and sin, and he sends his son to come be the sacrifice and atonement for our sins by saying; Son, go atone for the sins of ‘my’ people. Therefore, it became laid down that even while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us…for his people.

Isaiah 7:14 | View whole chapter | See verse in context
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel.
    Emmanuel means “God with us,”
    Galatians 1:4
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
….deliver us from this present evil world.

Hi nice blog. Jesus saved me from addiction. I try and walk hand and hand with Jesus every day. I believe that it is only through the love of Jesus that we can truly recover from anything, sin, fear, alcohol, drugs, low self esteem and fear of man to name a few. Blessings. Richard
