It’s Never Too Late to Live Your Dreams. Here Are 5 Ways to Do It!

1. Forget New Year’s resolutions.

While they may have their time and place, this isn’t about what you can do better. We aren’t talking about exercising more or being more organized. We are thinking about this differently—from the outside in.

2. What impact do you want to have in your world?

Your “world” may be your family, your neighborhood, your community or the bigger world. You decide. This question isn’t self-focused, but on the outward way you want to affect others or the issues you care about. It’s not the size or scale that matters the most, but your desire to have an impact around you.

3. Dream big! Start small and start now!

This is my mantra. This combination is so powerful because if we dream big, it can feel like too much. Yet almost everything great started with a small decision or action that didn’t seem significant or courageous at the time.

It’s so important to ask yourself, What can I do now? Not after you leave your current job, make more money, or after you get out of college. Start this week. Today. Now.

4. Experiment and explore.

Try a small-scale home improvement business on the side before you leave your job in sales. Spend the day with someone in your dream job and see how it feels. Start writing a blog before you commit to a book. Experimentation can give you the confidence and assurance on where to focus. Remember, this isn’t a test with one right answer. Try, learn and adjust your course.

5. The time will pass anyway.

The time will pass anyway. It’s OK if you aren’t sure what your dream, your wave or your next thing is. What’s important is taking the time to ask yourself the right questions and then thinking:

What’s the change I want to see in my life and my world?

And keep asking. Because if you don’t—no one else will.

I love this blog. I want to share this to my blog, but I am new to blogging and I dont know the bloggers code yet or is there something I have to do first, permission perhaps or something. Are there tips to start a blogging career?

No. 3 is a very good mantra to live by – Every great marathon starts with a single step – or something life that. hahaa.

  3. Kaitlyn Mize 3 years ago

I love your mantra in No.3. That is something that I always had trouble with. I would tell myself that I would start something new only after something else ends. That was a horrible way for me to think. We are not guarenteed tomorrow, so if you want to do something, start it now!

    Thank you for that reminder.

Love your blogs. I get so lost in time reading all of them. Thank you for the inspiration and knowledge to continue to grow.

I don’t agree with the first point. Keeping my New Years Resolution was what led me to quit my job to travel and write. I promised myself I would and halfway through 2015, I did it. I think better advice is make better resolutions and actually stick to it.

So inspiring. I am investing in myself daily to live the life I think we all should want. Your the best.

I remember when I was starting my graduate degree and opted for the smaller MA because I didn’t want to spend an extra year on a Master’s degree. Someone told me, the time will pass anyway, why not? So true. Time passes, take the time to ask these questions.

It’s true you have to fight and go with your dreams 🙂 It is what makes it amazing to wake up every morning.

Especially if your dreams involve making the world a better place and helping people!

I love this a lot. Especially “what impact do you want to make on your world” because often we only have control over our own lives, not others

If I could add to number 4 it would be a huge recommendation to read The Lean Startup. https://www.google.com/search?q=The+Lean+Startup&hl=en
I’ve heard others recommend it for years and I recently started listening to it on audible. It’s great for anyone starting in a new space!

I was just talking about this recently to a friend. When you look at someone who has accomplished amazing things, it’s easy to forget that their path was filled with ordinary, everyday responsibilities. Everyday, they woke up and checked off their to do list faithfully. Small steps are what matter, and they happen for all of us each day. They aren’t always big and exciting. Remembering that makes it easier for me to be patient as I make my own way. Great article!

100% correct..however at times you have no choice but give up some dreams of yours..but then also, you can always choose to be happy by finding new dreams that suit your changed situation and chase them accordingly.
