“I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou

I am very much a fan of Maya Angelou and find this quote so true to life for me. Reflecting on my past, and life events that I have experienced, I often ponder the impact, and if I am me because of it.

I said to myself “Of course I am, and I feel I have come out on top!” At the time I experienced an unexpected life event, I may have had concerns; but the end result has played out well for me, thus far.

Isn’t this true for a lot of us? When we are going through something, not so joyous, I believe it is how we process it that is lingering. Does the memory serve us well or is it daunting? The important thing for me is to “move on” and “move forward”. Whatever the result may be, the key is we learn and are bettered by the experience.

We cannot let ourselves become any lesser of a person because of a poor situation. If we find ourselves in an undesirable position, we need to take a stand and be strong.  As Maya stated “but I refuse to be reduced by it”. My mother use to say “rise up above it”. And I say, “I am going to be who I am, what I am, and remain a whole person.” I may not always come out smelling like a rose but I am going to do my best to be fresh as a daisy. Enough said.

Cheers!
